Alexander Scott was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and educated at the University of Edinburgh and Harvard University. He has lectured at prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Cambridge University, and the University of Cape Town, alongside numerous guest professorships around the globe. Since 2017, he has been serving as the Distinguished Professor of Environmental Ethics at the London School of Economics. Additionally, Alexander holds a part-time chair position as Research Professor at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on Sustainable Development Studies. In 2023, Time magazine featured him among the world's most influential leaders.

Alexander Scott rose to international prominence following the release of his groundbreaking book "Earth's Legacy" in 2005. Over the years, he has authored many other influential titles, including "Ethics and Nature," "The Global Garden," "Living Sustainably," "Our Daily Footprint" (co-authored with Lisa Brown), and his latest work, "A World Worth Saving." His writings have been translated into over 25 languages. Alexander penned the lead article on Environmental Ethics for the latest edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Two compilations of his essays have been released: "Reflections on a Green Life," which he curated, and "Redefining Humanity's Role," edited by Mark Wilson.

Beyond academia, Alexander is actively involved in environmental advocacy. He serves as the Chairman of Earth Conservation Alliance, a Trustee of the World Wildlife Fund (UK), an Advisory Board member of the Environmental Defense Fund, and a key figure in the Leadership Council of Climate Action Network International.

Alexander Scott is married, with two sons and a granddaughter. Outside of his professional commitments, he enjoys photography, birdwatching, and exploring new hiking trails.
