Alexei Sage Ziegler

Motto:Better good neighbours near than relations far away.
Alexei Sage Ziegler, Ph.D., is a pioneering social psychologist and an associate professor at the Department of Psychology, University of British Columbia. Based in Vancouver, Canada, Alexei also directs the Social Dynamics and Diversity (SDD) Lab, where innovative research on multiculturalism, gender fluidity, and inclusivity thrives.
With a keen interest in how individuals from diverse cultural, gender, and sexuality backgrounds navigate their identities within complex sociopolitical landscapes, Alexei's work highlights the potential for personal growth amidst challenges. His research philosophy posits that human development is deeply intertwined with the dynamic interplay between personal experiences and broader societal narratives.
Since joining the university in 2022, Alexei has contributed to over 40 peer-reviewed articles and co-authored a book on the intersection of culture and psychology. He was instrumental in editing a special issue for the Journal of Cultural Psychology, focusing on the experiences of LGBTQ+ youth in multicultural settings. An advocate for bridging research and community impact, Alexei serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education.
Dedicated to translating academic insights into practical tools for fostering inclusive environments, Alexei established the Inclusive Practices Institute in 2023. This initiative offers workshops, consultations, and resources aimed at enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in various sectors including education, healthcare, and business. Through his efforts, Alexei aims to cultivate spaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
