Benjamin, Ph.D., is a professor of psychology at the University of California, San Diego, where he has earned accolades including the UCSD Chancellor Awards for Excellence in Teaching, Research, and Community Engagement. Beyond instructing a wide array of courses, Benjamin spearheads the campus’s Cognitive Neuroscience Lab, focusing on how brain functions influence human behavior. He also holds the position of founding director for the university's Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program (INP), which integrates knowledge from various scientific fields to better understand the complexities of the human mind.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Benjamin has been instrumental in establishing the Southern California Neuroscience Society (SCNS), fostering collaboration among researchers across the region. He has authored numerous books that have garnered attention in both academic and popular circles. Titles such as "Neuroscience 101," "The Brain Behind Relationships: How Neural Pathways Shape Love and Friendship," "Understanding Complex Data: A Guide to Statistical Analysis," and "Maximize Your Psychology Degree!" showcase his expertise.
In his latest book, "Beneath Darwin's Surface: The Evolution of Mind and Social Intelligence," Benjamin explores diverse topics concerning human interaction and cognitive evolution. Released in March 2024, this work delves into how evolutionary pressures have shaped our social behaviors and mental capabilities over millennia, offering insights into the modern human experience.
