It quickly caught the attention of readers and critics alike, earning Cornelius a place as a finalist for the prestigious Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards. His follow-up works, "Whispers of the Ancestors" and "The Path Unseen," have found their way into high school literature curricula across Australia.

In 2021, Cornelius was honored by the Melbourne Writers Festival as the “Melbourne Author of the Year.” His stories have resonated so deeply that they've been featured twice on popular podcast series hosted by renowned storyteller Jane Doe. The Children’s Book Council of Australia selected two of his children's books, "A Day in Dreamtime" and "Dreamtime Returns," as highlights for their annual awards in 2022 and 2023.
