Daphne Hughes

Daphne Hughes, Ph.D., is a distinguished Research Fellow at the London School of Economics and a Visiting Professor at King's College London. As an expert in urban sustainability, Daphne has been instrumental in advancing green technologies within the city of London. She currently leads the Environmental Sustainability Initiative for the Greater London Authority and serves on the advisory board of the European Green Deal Agency.
In her role as the Director of Urban Development Projects, Daphne spearheaded the transformation of several industrial areas into thriving eco-communities that prioritize renewable energy sources and sustainable living practices. Her efforts have not only improved the quality of life for residents but have also set new standards for urban planning across Europe.
Daphne was recently appointed to head the newly established Centre for Smart Cities, part of the Alan Turing Institute, where she focuses on leveraging big data analytics and artificial intelligence to solve complex urban challenges. She completed her doctoral studies at Oxford University, concentrating on environmental science and policy.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Daphne is the founder of EcoViva, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting equitable access to clean technology and sustainable resources for underserved communities around the world. Through her work with EcoViva, Daphne has helped implement innovative solutions that support environmental conservation and social justice.
This past spring, Daphne was honored with the International Sustainability Award for her contributions to sustainable development and leadership in fostering green initiatives. Her ongoing commitment to research and community engagement continues to inspire change and drive progress in creating more livable and sustainable cities.
