Declan is a PhD student at the School of Environmental Studies at Dalhousie University. He focuses on climate change and sustainable urban development in coastal communities. When he's not deep in research or attending lectures, Declan can usually be spotted leading community clean-up initiatives along the shores of Halifax.
It was a crisp Saturday morning in early November when Declan joined a group of volunteers for a beach cleanup event. The sun had just begun to peek over the horizon, casting a golden glow across the water. Armed with garbage bags and gloves, Declan and his team set out to make a difference. They spent hours collecting trash and debris washed up by the tides, all while raising awareness about the importance of protecting marine life.
After wrapping up their efforts, the group gathered at a nearby café to share stories and reflect on the day's achievements. Over steaming cups of coffee, they discussed future projects and ways to further engage the local community in environmental conservation.
