Devon J. Rivers, Ph.D., is the founding director of the Boston Urban Development Center and a professor of Urban Studies, Education, and Sociology at Boston University. As of early 2024, Devon has been dedicating his efforts to exploring innovative educational models that can thrive in diverse urban settings, aiming to bridge the gap between community needs and academic resources.

In recent years, Devon's work has emphasized community-based research projects that involve collaboration with local schools and families in Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood. His focus lies on creating sustainable programs that support youth development, particularly for those facing socio-economic challenges. Through his research, he has contributed significantly to the fields of urban education, sociology, and community psychology, with numerous publications and presentations at national and international conferences.

Additionally, Devon serves as a Visiting Scholar in Education at Howard University, where he is involved in designing mentorship initiatives aimed at fostering leadership skills among young adults. His passion for improving educational outcomes for all students drives him to continuously seek out new ways to engage communities in the learning process.
