Motto:Overcome your fears and you'll be unstoppable.
Dominick Marzano, M.D., Ph.D. is a Leading Professor of Neuroeconomics at the University of Sydney, where he leads the Institute for Neuroethics. Dominick is also an esteemed member of the Department of Cognitive Science and one of the pioneering members of the International Society for Neuroethics.
These days, Dominick's research focuses on employing advanced EEG technology to investigate cognitive functions in alert, freely moving koalas within their natural habitats in the Blue Mountains. The primary aim of these studies is to create non-invasive brain maps that could help predict the adaptability of koalas to climate change and urban development. He also applies cutting-edge computational models to trace neural pathways in various species native to Australia, such as kangaroos, wallabies, and the nearly mythical thylacine.
In the past, Dominick's work delved into uncovering the neurobiological roots of personal tastes and how our brain biology can shape the choices made by both humans and animals. His team utilized fMRI scans to gauge brain activity in critical decision-making areas. For instance, they were able to forecast the success of new tech startups – marking a significant breakthrough in the field of neuromarketing. This research has since been applied to understand common pitfalls in cryptocurrency trading and more recently, to analyze investor reactions to blockchain technology updates. Additionally, Dominick has explored how 'core values' are processed in the brain and what this means for ethical business practices.
Dr. Marzano's findings often catch the attention of the media, with features in outlets like The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian Financial Review, National Geographic, TED Talks, and BBC World News. He is a regular guest on Sky News and ABC Radio, and his work has been showcased on SBS Insight and Channel Seven’s Sunrise.
