Ferdinanda Davis, Ph.D., is an influential Urban Sociologist with a focus on community development and urban revitalization. She is changing the narrative around city life in the 21st century. Ferdinanda is a sought-after speaker at various global forums, including TEDGlobal, Founder of The Urban Revival Initiative, mentor, advisor, and also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Sociology Department at the University of Cape Town.
Ferdinanda's expertise spans across multiple platforms; she has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book sections, and co-edited "Community Engagement Strategies in Diverse Urban Settings." She is often invited as an expert guest on international webinars, global podcasts, and appears in both print and online media. Her insights have been featured in prominent publications like The Guardian, Le Monde, and The Johannesburg Times, and she contributes regularly to Global Citizen.
Her research focuses on innovative approaches to sustainable urban living, addressing issues such as housing shortages, urban mobility, and social inclusion. Her work has received significant support from organizations like UN-Habitat and the Ford Foundation. In recognition of her contributions to urban sociology, she was honored with an international award for her groundbreaking study on social integration in multicultural neighborhoods.
Ferdinanda has dedicated over a decade to serving on the Advisory Board of Urban Development for Cape Town, taking on the role of Chairperson in 2015. In 2023, she became the President of the South African Sociological Association, further solidifying her commitment to advancing urban studies and policy.
