Motto:The more you focus on the positive aspects of others, the more you'll build strong relationships.
Fiona McAllister, M.D., stands out as a leading board-certified psychiatrist in Sydney, Australia, with a rich career spanning over two decades. Fiona specializes in treating mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder, alongside providing expert care for individuals navigating the challenges of early-stage dementia and those affected by post-traumatic stress. Advocating for an integrative approach to mental health, Fiona offers her patients mindfulness-based therapy sessions, complementing traditional pharmacological treatments and enhancing the effectiveness of interventions.
In recent years, Fiona has dedicated much of her time to community service, playing a pivotal role in providing psychological support after significant events like the 2019-2020 Australian bushfires. During the global outbreak of Zika virus, she spearheaded the initiative Health Guardians, which offered free counseling services to healthcare workers on the front lines in Southeast Asia, where the impact was most acutely felt.
Fiona earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Sydney and completed her medical education at Monash University. She undertook her residency at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and furthered her specialization with a fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at St Vincent’s Hospital. Fiona comes from a family with a strong background in medicine; her father, Dr. Alan McAllister, was a renowned neurologist, and her daughter, Emily McAllister, is now studying neuroscience and psychology at the University of Melbourne.
Through her popular podcast "Mind Matters," Fiona shares practical advice, personal stories, and groundbreaking research in the field of mental health, aiming to destigmatize discussions around mental illness and encourage open conversations about emotional well-being.
