George Fernandez

Motto:Jealousy is the jaundice of the soul.
George Fernandez is a celebrated figure in the realm of environmental sustainability and community development. Serving as the Chief Sustainability Officer for Green Horizon Institute, George has been pivotal in pioneering eco-friendly initiatives that have transformed urban landscapes across North America. Known affectionately as "Geo," he's a beacon of trust and wisdom for city planners, green activists, and forward-thinking leaders alike.
Since taking the helm at Green Horizon in 2022, George has spearheaded projects aimed at reducing carbon footprints and enhancing the quality of life for residents in cities like Portland, Oregon. His dynamic approach to sustainable living has not only garnered attention from local media outlets but has also earned him features on TED Talks, The Huffington Post, National Geographic, and Sustainable Cities Magazine. Alongside his colleague, he authored the influential book "Beyond Urban Sprawl," which delves into the challenges and opportunities of integrating nature with urban development.
In the early months of 2023, George played an instrumental role in establishing the Green City Initiative, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating sustainable solutions for metropolitan areas facing environmental challenges. Before this, from 2015 to 2022, he was deeply involved with the Eco-Village Project, where he led workshops and seminars on sustainable agriculture and renewable energy.
George also runs Terra Verde Consulting, which he founded in 2018. Through this platform, he provides expert advice on sustainable practices, conducts workshops, delivers keynote speeches, and offers consultation services tailored to fostering environmentally friendly communities.
As an advocate for change, George embraces a holistic view of sustainability, incorporating elements from various disciplines to create effective strategies that benefit both the environment and its inhabitants. He firmly believes that by rethinking our relationship with the natural world, we can inspire innovation and lead more fulfilling lives. His new blog series, "Eco-Insights," published on Medium, argues that the integration of sustainability principles is essential for the future of our planet.
Recently, George has turned his focus towards understanding how sustainable practices can be seamlessly integrated into daily life without compromising convenience or quality of life. To explore this, he initiated the Sustainable Living Survey, engaging over 1,500 participants from diverse backgrounds. The survey revealed that a significant number of respondents were committed to adopting greener lifestyles, with over 75% expressing high satisfaction with their efforts. This insight fueled his latest book, "Living in Harmony: A Guide to Sustainable Excellence," which provides practical guidance on achieving a balanced and sustainable way of life, highlighting the importance of personal action in the global effort towards sustainability.
