George Frederick Lane

George Frederick Lane, Ph.D., earned his doctorate in philosophy from Oxford University and taught at Harvard University before relocating to Asia. Presently, he is a Distinguished Research Professor of Philosophy at the Institute for Mind and Cognition at Seoul National University and also holds the position of Visiting Scholar at St John's College, University of Cambridge. George leads the Asian Consortium for Cognitive Science, an organization that unites leading scholars from various disciplines—psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy—who focus on cognitive processes and brain function.

Over his career, George has authored over 150 scholarly articles and three books published by Princeton University Press: The Nexus of Thought and Action (2014), Perception as a Gateway to Knowledge (2017), and his latest, Unseen Influences in Visual Processing, which is currently in press. His research has been bolstered by significant funding, including a prestigious five-million-dollar grant from the Asian Research Foundation. Among other accolades, he was awarded the Kyoto Prize in Basic Sciences.

Before diving into academia, George had a rich background in journalism, where he covered science and technology for popular magazines and was a book reviewer for several years. This experience has enriched his ability to communicate complex ideas to a broad audience, making his work both accessible and engaging.
