Motto:Walk your own path and let others talk.
Ignatius O'Connell, Ph.D., is a Research Scientist at the Institute of Cognitive Studies, nestled in the heart of Dublin, Ireland. After earning his Master’s degree in Cognitive Psychology, Ignatius completed his doctoral studies at Trinity College Dublin, focusing on positive psychology and its impact on community resilience. His dissertation delved into the enhancement of community well-being through psychological interventions designed to promote positive emotions and social connections.
In 2022-2023, Ignatius was awarded the prestigious Erasmus+ Research Fellowship, which allowed him to collaborate with Prof. Barbara Fredrickson at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research has found a home in various esteemed international journals, including the Journal of Positive Psychology, Social Issues and Policy Review, and Emotion.
Beyond academia, Ignatius is a regular contributor to mainstream media outlets like The Irish Times, RTÉ, and TEDx Talks, where he discusses modern psychological concepts that can be applied to everyday life. Dr. O'Connell has been quoted as an expert in articles exploring mental health and happiness within the European context. As both a practicing psychologist and a dedicated educator, he has inspired students from all corners of Europe with his teachings on research methodology, statistical analysis, and psychological theory.
Ignatius's passion for promoting mental health awareness led him to co-found the 'Minds Matter' initiative, aimed at destigmatizing mental illness in Ireland. He has also been recognized for his efforts by being included in the European Innovators in Mental Health calendar (2023). In his free time, Ignatius enjoys hiking the Wicklow Mountains and capturing the beauty of nature through photography. You can find him sharing insights and updates on Twitter @ignatius_oconnell.
