Jasmine Bryant

Jasmine Bryant graduated with a B.A. in psychology and creative writing from New York University (2010), followed by her M.A. and Ph.D. in Cognitive Sciences from Yale University in 2012 and 2019, respectively. She is now an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin, where she established the Memory and Cognition Lab in 2020.

In recognition of her pioneering work, Jasmine was awarded the UT Austin Distinguished Teaching Award for Social Sciences in 2023 and named Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year. In addition, she received the prestigious 2024 Henry Adams Award for Significant Contributions to Cognitive Research from the Cognitive Science Society. Her latest book, MEMORY MAZES: THE BREAKTHROUGH STUDY ON BRAIN PLASTICITY AND AGING (2023), earned her the 2024 Howard Gardner Book Prize from the American Psychological Association.

Among other accolades, Jasmine has been honored with the 2022 Global Impact Award (Cognitive Studies, UK), a 2023 Innovation Grant (American Psychological Foundation), and the 2024 Public Engagement Award (Midwestern Psychological Association).

Jasmine is the author of several books including The Echoes of Thought: How Memory Shapes Us (Cambridge: MIT Press, 2015/2017), Mapping the Mind: What Our Brain Tells Us About Human Nature (NY: HarperCollins, 2018, NY: Perennial 2019) and Shadows of the Past: Unraveling the Mysteries of Forgotten Memories (Amherst, NY: Prometheus Books, 2022). She also co-edited Bridging the Gap: Connecting Neuroscience and Education (Washington, D.C.: APA Press, 2020). With support from a 2022-2023 Fulbright Scholarship, she completed research for her upcoming book on memory disorders.

She served as co-investigator on a National Science Foundation-funded project titled "Memory, Learning, and Cognitive Enhancement." Jasmine is currently an Associate Editor for Cognitive Psychology and Neuroscience, the official journal of the Cognitive Science Society.

Jasmine has published around 100 scientific papers and book chapters alongside her four books. In the spring of 2022, she delivered a keynote address at the International Conference on Cognitive Development in Berlin.

Jasmine's media appearances include CNN's Anderson Cooper 360°, BBC World News, and TED Talks. NPR featured her in a special segment on memory enhancement in the winter of 2023, when The Echoes of Thought was released. She frequently speaks to both academic and public audiences about her research. Her current interests encompass cognitive aging, memory formation, the impact of technology on brain function, and the effects of early life experiences on long-term memory retention.

Jasmine is the author of Memory Myths, Memory Mazes, Shadows of the Past, Mapping the Mind, The Echoes of Thought, and the forthcoming book (March 2025) Time Travelers: A Journey Through Memory and Perception (with co-author Luisa R. Martinez).
