Kenneth Brian Howard

Motto:The most effective way to do it, is to do it.
Kenneth Brian Howard is a storyteller, educator, and advocate for community-driven change. With a background in environmental science, Kenneth has spent years exploring how we can foster a world that thrives on sustainability and interconnectedness.
Kenneth obtained his Bachelor's, Master’s, and Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the University of Cambridge by the time he was 28. He went on to become an esteemed professor at the University of Edinburgh, where he garnered several accolades for his innovative approaches to teaching and research. Despite these achievements, Kenneth felt a growing unease with academia's limitations in addressing real-world issues, prompting him to envision a more impactful path forward.
This introspection guided Kenneth into the realm of community development, launching a new chapter as an environmental consultant and trainer. For over two decades, Kenneth has dedicated himself to empowering communities to take charge of their ecological health. As part of this journey, he established Thrive Earth Initiatives, a leading organization based in Glasgow, which focuses on sustainable urban development and community resilience. Under his leadership, Thrive Earth grew significantly and eventually merged with Green Cities Network to expand its reach and influence.
Currently, Kenneth is penning his memoir, "Rooted in Tomorrow," set for release in the spring of 2026. His book delves into personal stories and professional insights, highlighting the importance of grassroots movements in creating lasting environmental change. Married to Laura, they have two children, Finn and Willow. Together, they reside in a cozy home in Glasgow, surrounded by a vibrant community that reflects Kenneth's vision of a connected and sustainable future.
