Levi Thompson

Motto:Of two evils choose the less.
Levi Thompson, a renowned environmental scientist, dedicated over two decades to teaching at the University of British Columbia. Now, he has taken on a new challenge as the chief sustainability officer for the GreenTech Initiative in Vancouver. Alongside his academic pursuits, Levi is also an advocate for renewable energy and has been instrumental in leading several groundbreaking projects that aim to reduce urban carbon footprints.
In 2022, Levi decided to take his expertise beyond the classroom and into the community. He partnered with local government and non-profit organizations to launch the "Eco-City Blueprint," a comprehensive plan designed to transform Vancouver into a model of sustainable living by 2040. The initiative includes ambitious goals like increasing green spaces, promoting public transportation, and integrating smart technology to optimize resource use.
What sets Levi apart is not just his commitment to the environment but also his ability to engage people from all walks of life. He regularly hosts town hall meetings in Stanley Park, where citizens can voice their concerns and ideas. These discussions have led to innovative solutions that reflect the diverse needs of Vancouver's population.
Levi’s work has earned him recognition both nationally and internationally. In March 2024, he was invited to speak at the Global Sustainability Summit in Berlin, where he shared insights on how cities can adapt to climate change while fostering economic growth. His speech was met with enthusiasm, and many attendees expressed interest in implementing similar strategies in their own communities.
Back home, Levi continues to inspire students and professionals alike. At the University of British Columbia, he mentors the next generation of environmental leaders, encouraging them to think creatively and act responsibly. With his passion and vision, Levi Thompson is paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
