Madeleine Christine Stewart

Motto:The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
Madeleine Christine Stewart, Ph.D., served as the distinguished Carter Wilson Professor Emerita of Behavioral Science at the University of Melbourne. She authored several influential books, including "Empathy in Action: Bridging Compassion with Social Change." Her groundbreaking research on empathic communication and her pioneering Peaceful Dialogue Project have reshaped our understanding of conflict resolution. Dr. Stewart passed away peacefully at the age of 89 in March 2024.
Throughout her illustrious career, Madeleine was known for her dynamic approach to teaching and her dedication to fostering a more compassionate world. Based in Melbourne, Australia, she not only impacted countless students on campus but also reached communities globally through her workshops and seminars. Her work emphasized the importance of listening and understanding others, which became a beacon for those seeking to bridge divides and create meaningful dialogue across different cultures and backgrounds.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Madeleine was deeply involved in community service. She often said that true change begins with small, personal interactions. This belief led her to establish local peace circles where individuals could share stories and learn from one another. The legacy of Dr. Stewart's efforts continues to inspire new generations to engage actively in their communities and to strive for a world where empathy and respect are guiding principles.
