Madeleine Shaw, Ph.D., is a distinguished Professor of Environmental Science and Sustainability at the University of Cambridge and holds a concurrent position as a Research Fellow at Oxford University's Department of Earth Sciences. She has also been collaborating with her partner, Dr. Patel, at the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation in Scotland, where she spearheads the Green Cities Initiative, a project launched in 2023 that aims to transform urban areas into sustainable ecosystems.
Born and raised in Manchester, Madeleine completed her doctoral studies at the prestigious Imperial College London, focusing on renewable energy systems. Her work has significantly influenced policies regarding environmental conservation and urban development. In recognition of her pioneering efforts, she was awarded the Royal Geographical Society’s Emerging Explorer Award in 2024 and the United Nations Champion of the Earth Award in 2025.
Madeleine is an active member of several influential bodies, including the European Academy of Sciences, the Royal Meteorological Society, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature. She has contributed to critical panels discussing climate change mitigation strategies for organizations like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and has advised governmental bodies on transitioning to green technologies.
