Motto:A person who loves his work never has to work a day in his life.

Marissa Thompson, Ph.D., embarked on her academic journey that culminated in earning a doctorate in environmental science in 2023 from the University of Cambridge. Working closely with Prof. Jane Goodall (mentor) and Dr. Mark Maslin (committee chair), Marissa became an authority on urban biodiversity and green infrastructure.

Her primary research delves into innovative ways to integrate nature into cityscapes, enhancing urban wildlife habitats and promoting sustainable living. Complementing this, she has a keen interest in public policy and its impact on environmental conservation. Marissa's work has been highlighted in a groundbreaking 2022 Nature Sustainability paper, which explores strategies for cities to become more resilient against climate change, as well as a 2023 Environmental Science & Technology article discussing the balance between development and ecological preservation.

Presently based in London, Marissa is the Director of Urban Green Initiatives, a Senior Research Fellow at the Cambridge Centre for Environment, and serves on the steering committee for the Urban Biodiversity Awards. She also shares her expertise by teaching environmental management within the Master’s program at Imperial College London, inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.

Through her dynamic role, Marissa not only contributes to advancing scientific knowledge but also actively participates in shaping policies that can lead to greener, more livable cities around the globe.
