Maxwell Orion Brooks

Motto:If you want to be respected, you must respect yourself first.
Maxwell Orion Brooks, a distinguished figure in the field of environmental science, earned his Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia (Canada) in 2010. Since 2024, he has taken on the role of Distinguished Professor of Environmental Science at the University of Sydney, Australia. Prior to this, Maxwell held positions as a full professor at the University of California, Berkeley (2019-2024), and Stanford University (2013-2018). He also served as an associate professor at the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) and the University of Queensland (Australia).
Maxwell is passionate about fostering a deeper understanding of our planet's ecosystems and advocating for sustainable practices that can be integrated into everyday life. His work primarily focuses on "ecosystem resilience," which combines elements of biology, environmental science, and community engagement to explore how natural systems adapt to change and human impact. From 2015 to 2021, he directed the Resilient Ecosystems Initiative, a project supported by the Australian Research Council. This initiative aimed to develop strategies for protecting biodiversity and enhancing the resilience of natural habitats against climate change.
Currently, Maxwell serves as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Ecological Restoration, where he continues to promote research that bridges the gap between scientific discovery and practical application. Through his teaching and writing, he inspires students and professionals alike to think critically about the environment and to act as stewards of the Earth.
