Nixon M. Thompson, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist running a thriving practice in the heart of Seattle, Washington. Nixon also holds the position of Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Washington and Guest Lecturer at Stanford University's Department of Psychology. His research focuses on the evolution of cognitive-behavioral therapy, especially its application in modern digital health platforms; the understanding of resilience in trauma survivors; and innovative approaches to treating anxiety disorders, PTSD, and complex grief.
Nixon has gained recognition for his pioneering work on the impact of technology on mental health, advocating for the integration of virtual reality and AI in therapeutic settings. He was among the first to explore the potential of immersive technologies as a tool for exposure therapy, significantly advancing the field.
Nixon earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology with honors from Harvard University and his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System. His dissertation, "Harnessing Technology for Mental Health: A New Frontier in Psychotherapy," was featured in the Journal of Clinical Psychology.
