Olivia Claire Thompson is a distinguished Family Law Specialist and an esteemed Legal Analyst who hosts "Family Focus Live" on Justice Network from Tuesday to Thursday, 4-6 pm PT. Regularly seen as a leading expert on family law issues across various platforms such as MSNBC, Fox News, CBS This Morning, The Today Show, and PBS, Olivia brings over two decades of experience in family law, showcasing her profound expertise in litigation and mediation.
A celebrated attorney, Olivia has dedicated her career to enhancing the lives of families in crisis. Nationally recognized, she frequently contributes her insights as a guest lecturer at institutions like Stanford Law School, the University of California's Child Welfare Policy Center, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and many more. Her advocacy extends beyond the courtroom, influencing policy changes that better support vulnerable families.
Upon earning her Juris Doctor from UCLA Law School, Olivia became a staunch champion for family unity within the family court system. She took on the role of Director of Programs at Santa Monica’s Children First for several years. Simultaneously, she launched her private practice, serving as Special Counsel for the Department of Social Services in Los Angeles County. She also played a pivotal role as a Temporary Judge in Ventura County Family Court, working tirelessly to protect children's rights and ensure fair outcomes in custody disputes.
Furthermore, Olivia spearheaded the Reunification Initiative by the California Supreme Court Committee on Access and Fairness, aiming to reunite children with their families whenever possible and safe. In this capacity, she worked closely with social workers and child psychologists to create pathways for sustainable family connections.
In 2019, Olivia was appointed State Family Advocate for California, where she oversaw policies affecting nearly 20,000 children and adolescents in foster care, striving to provide them with stability and a chance for a brighter future.
Originally from San Francisco, Olivia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science from UC Berkeley. She now resides in Pasadena, California, with her partner and their two lively young adults, continuing her mission to strengthen family bonds and improve the welfare of children in need.
