Motto:A positive self - image is the best makeup you can wear.

Raymond M. Foster, Ph.D., is a Professor of Environmental Science at the University of California, San Diego (Ph.D. Stanford University, 2004). He's also an active member of the university’s Executive Master's program in Sustainable Development Leadership, EMSDL. Raymond's work centers on sustainable urban development and its impact on climate change. His research explores innovative green infrastructure, community resilience to natural disasters, and policies that promote environmental stewardship.

In 2023, he co-authored a book titled "Building Resilient Cities: A Guide for the Future," published by Cambridge University Press (with L. Greenfield and T. Nelson), celebrating the career and contributions of Dr. Jane Goodall. Additionally, he has edited several volumes including "Urban Sustainability Strategies" (2017) and special journal editions on "Sustainable Cities and Society" (2018; 2022).

Raymond believes that most communities can adopt practices that are beneficial to both the environment and their residents. However, he also acknowledges the value of embracing unpredictability and adaptability in planning for the future. When not deep in research or teaching, you might find Raymond leading a workshop on sustainable living or hiking through the diverse landscapes of Southern California, always seeking inspiration from nature. He is known among his peers as someone who lives what he teaches, embodying sustainability in every aspect of his life.
