Scarlett Hughes

Scarlett Hughes is a dedicated mental health advocate and clinical psychologist based in Melbourne, Australia. As of 2024, she leads the Mental Wellness Initiative at the University of Melbourne, also serving as the Senior Consultant for their Anxiety Disorders Clinic. Scarlett earned her Bachelor’s degree in psychology with highest honors from the University of Queensland before completing her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Monash University.
Over the past decade, Scarlett has been instrumental in pioneering new therapeutic approaches for anxiety disorders, focusing particularly on innovative treatments that combine traditional therapy with modern technology. Her work has attracted significant support from organizations such as Beyond Blue, the Australian Research Council, and the Mind & Life Institute.
A sought-after speaker and writer, Scarlett's insights have graced the pages of The Australian, The Guardian Australia, and Psychology Today. She has been recognized with numerous accolades, including Innovations in Therapy Practice from the Australian Psychological Society (2019 and 2022), Top Ten Contributions to Clinical Psychology by the Australian Journal of Psychology, the Early Career Award from the International Association for Cognitive Psychotherapy, the David Hayes Writing Prize in Clinical Psychology (Monash University), and was named Young Professional of the Year by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
