Theodorah Carter

Motto:Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, and wonder about what makes the universe exist.
Theodorah Carter is a beacon of inspiration, guiding individuals to unlock their inner potential through the power of storytelling and personal narrative. A writer, mentor, and motivational speaker, Theodorah shares her wisdom in community-driven workshops that span across the Pacific Northwest, focusing on personal growth and empowerment.
Her most recent book, "Echoes of the Heart: Journeys Through Generations," is a poignant memoir interwoven with reflective prompts designed to inspire readers to explore their own heritage. She has also penned "Voices Within: Crafting Your Story for Self-Discovery," which outlines an eight-step guide to uncovering one's narrative as a means of transformation. Additionally, she authored "Whispers of Time: A Legacy Unveiled," a memoir that delves into her family history, and "Words as Wings: Navigating Life’s Challenges Through Writing," detailing her experiences and how writing has been instrumental in navigating life's ups and downs.
Born and raised in Seattle, Theodorah found solace in writing during her teenage years when she was grappling with the complexities of identity and belonging. Her journey began as a social worker, educator, and community organizer. Overcoming numerous personal challenges, including a significant health crisis, Theodorah emerged stronger, using her experiences to fuel her passion for helping others find their voice.
Theodorah earned her Bachelor's degree in Social Work from the University of Washington, followed by a Master's in Education from Seattle University. She completed her Doctorate in Educational Psychology at the University of British Columbia, where her research focused on the therapeutic impact of writing on mental health.
As a visiting scholar at the University of Victoria's Creative Writing Program, Theodorah has led transformative workshops in various venues such as the Puget Sound Writers' Retreat, the Cascadia Arts Center, and annually at the Vancouver Island Literary Festival. The proud grandmother of four vibrant and imaginative grandchildren, Theodorah calls the charming coastal town of Port Townsend home.
Through her work, Theodorah Carter invites everyone to embrace their unique stories and harness the healing power of words to craft a more meaningful and enriched life.
