Tucker Woods

Motto:A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
Tucker Woods, Ph.D., is a professor of environmental science at the University of Montana, Missoula. Over his 15-year tenure, he has become renowned for his research on climate change adaptation in mountainous regions. Tucker has dedicated much of his career to exploring and documenting the effects of global warming on alpine ecosystems, an area that has seen increasing attention over the past decade.
Since joining the university, Tucker has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and contributed chapters to several books focusing on sustainable practices and biodiversity conservation. He's currently working on the fourth edition of his textbook, "The Ecology of Mountain Regions," which delves into the complex interactions between human activities and fragile high-altitude environments. Additionally, he published a comprehensive anthology, "Perspectives on Alpine Ecosystems," in 2023 with Oxford University Press.
Tucker also boasts extensive editorial experience, having overseen three editions of the "Compendium of Climate Change Adaptation Strategies" (the latest edition is due out next year) with Cambridge University Press. He edited a volume titled "Mountain Environments in a Changing World," which came out in two editions (2014, 2021) through Springer Nature. Moreover, he co-authored a guidebook for students and researchers called "Navigating Environmental Science: A Field Guide" (2020, with Earthscan).
In 2022, he curated a special issue of the "Journal of Alpine Research" focused on the impacts of climate change on mountain communities (Vol. 78, issue 3). Tucker is also a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, recognized for his outstanding contributions to environmental studies.
Currently, Tucker is engaged in writing a book about resilience in mountain ecosystems, scheduled for release by Princeton University Press in 2025. His work continues to bridge the gap between academic research and practical applications, aiming to foster a deeper understanding of our changing world.
