Motto:A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.
William is a dedicated educator at the University of Edinburgh, where he teaches Philosophy. His popular podcast, The Mind Explorer, drops new episodes every Wednesday. William launched his first episode back on March 15th, 2023.
William earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Oxford University and spent time as a visiting scholar at Harvard University. In 2005, he co-authored an influential paper titled "The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence" with Dr. Linda Hall, which sparked extensive discussions within the tech community. Since then, they have collaborated on numerous projects, including developing the Hall-William AI Ethical Framework. In 2022, William introduced a concept he termed "Cognitive Resilience"—a resilience aimed at enhancing our mental adaptability—and has been researching its applications ever since. He also writes extensively on the intersection of philosophy and technology and how these fields influence our daily lives.
William serves on the advisory boards for several journals, such as the Journal of Applied Ethics. His latest book, "Cognitive Resilience: Strengthening the Mind in the Age of AI," is set to be released by Penguin Random House in June 2024. Through his work, William aims to bridge the gap between philosophical theory and practical application, offering insights that can help guide us through the complexities of modern life.
