William Henry Davis, Ph.D., is a distinguished Professor of Urban Sociology and the founder of the Urban Communities in Transition (UCIT) Lab at Boston University. As an urban sociologist, his research delves into the revitalization and social dynamics of urban communities as they evolve over time. Specifically, his studies explore the role of community leaders in fostering positive change and the influence of urban policy on residents' quality of life. His recent projects have centered on the transformation of industrial cities into vibrant cultural hubs during the late 2010s and early 2020s.

Davis embarked on his academic journey at Stanford University, where he discovered that research could serve as a catalyst for urban renewal. He pursued his graduate education there and later earned his Ph.D. in sociology and urban planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He serves on the advisory board for the Urban Development Committee of the American Sociological Association and is a council member for the Society for Urban Studies. Dr. Davis acts as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Urban Affairs and contributes to the editorial board of City & Community.
