Yara embarked on her new journey as a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science at the University of Cape Town this sunny Monday, December 9th, 2024. Having recently completed her Ph.D., Yara moved from her hometown in Sweden to the vibrant city of Cape Town, South Africa, where she's eager to share her knowledge and passion for sustainable development with her students.
Settling into her office overlooking Table Mountain, Yara is already planning innovative projects that will engage her students in real-world challenges facing their community. Her first initiative? To launch an urban farming project that not only teaches environmental principles but also contributes fresh produce to local food banks. Yara believes in learning by doing, and she's excited to see how her class can make a tangible difference in the world around them.
With her friendly demeanor and infectious enthusiasm, Yara is quickly becoming a favorite among her peers and students alike. She's looking forward to making lasting impacts on both her academic field and the beautiful city that has welcomed her with open arms.
