Motto:Happiness is not something ready - made. It comes from your own actions.
Yvette Thompson, Ph.D., is the distinguished professor of Social Dynamics and Organizational Behavior at UCLA. With a career spanning over two decades, Yvette has dedicated her expertise to advancing inclusive practices within organizations across the globe. Her groundbreaking research, which has resulted in more than 120 scholarly publications and appearances in media outlets like BBC News, Forbes, and TED Talks, focuses on four core areas: 1) evolving forms of bias in today's workplaces, 2) challenges related to gender and ethnic diversity, 3) impacts of these issues on employee well-being and productivity, and 4) innovative solutions for fostering equitable environments.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Dr. Thompson actively collaborates with businesses worldwide to enhance their cultural competency, refine recruitment processes, and develop leadership training programs aimed at promoting inclusivity. She was elected President of the Global Diversity Leadership Association and currently serves as an editorial board member for the International Journal of Human Resource Management.
Born and raised in Oakland, California, Yvette completed her undergraduate studies at Stanford University before earning her doctorate from UC Berkeley. She joined UCLA’s faculty in 2005, where she quickly became a pivotal figure, being awarded the prestigious James S. Coleman Professorship in 2007. As an applied social scientist, Yvette investigates how psychological theories can inform organizational policies and practices. Her work delves into discrimination faced by marginalized groups within various sectors, including technology, education, and healthcare.
Yvette is committed to not only conducting research but also translating it into practical applications that address societal disparities. A passionate educator, she has garnered numerous accolades for her teaching excellence, including being named "UCLA Educator of the Year" in 2020. Through her efforts, Yvette hopes to inspire future generations to create a more just and inclusive world.
