Good day. I am Strawberry.
Upon observing the experiences of the questioner, it becomes evident that the pursuit of employment is a common trajectory for individuals following graduation. The selection of a profession is often driven by a combination of factors, including personal interest and perceived competence. When individuals find work that aligns with these factors, they may perceive their professional experience as both enjoyable and growth-oriented.
Recently, I have been working overtime on a relatively large project, which has caused a relatively large change in the rhythm that the original questioner was accustomed to. When there is a sudden and drastic change in our accustomed lives, we can adapt in the short term; however, if it persists for an extended period, we will begin to feel overwhelmed, both physically and mentally.
Due to the physical and mental fatigue that results from the work, the questioner experiences a lack of motivation and is unable to identify strategies for alleviating the significant pressure they are under. Additionally, they observe that the outcomes of their efforts differ considerably from those of others. This discrepancy in results leads to a sense of doubt regarding their abilities and efforts.
Are you experiencing fatigue, a lack of motivation, an absence of the so-called sense of accomplishment, and a sense of despondency in your professional endeavors?
It is important to acknowledge one's limitations and accept that everyone has abilities that differ from one another.
Given the inherent differences in abilities among individuals, there will inevitably be discrepancies in the time required to accept new information and complete tasks. Excessive focus on these differences can lead to stress and anxiety, which are detrimental to work performance. Such emotions impede the ability to complete tasks effectively and may even result in a decline in performance.
The questioner has invested a significant amount of time and energy into their work. When they observe discrepancies between their results and those of others, they may begin to question the accuracy of their process. However, without a clear understanding of the questioner's methodology, it is challenging to determine the source of these discrepancies.
In the case of work with data, it is advisable to have multiple individuals review the material together in order to obtain the most accurate result. This will prevent the questioner from being disappointed by the outcome. Furthermore, it allows the questioner to discuss the material with their colleagues and avoid the negative mindset that they are always wrong, which can negatively impact their daily life. It is important to note that admitting limitations and seeking assistance from others does not imply a lack of competence. This approach can facilitate personal growth in unique ways.
It would be beneficial to consider all that this position has brought you thus far.
In exchange for remuneration, employees are expected to perform the duties of their roles. When presented with a greater number of options, individuals are inclined to select a position that aligns with their personal preferences. It is plausible that, initially, the questioner was satisfied with this role and therefore persisted with it. However, the introduction of a significant project has led to feelings of distress and anxiety, indicating a potential shift in their emotional state.
Subsequently, additional workloads of a similar nature will undoubtedly emerge following the completion of this significant project. It is therefore reasonable to conclude that this particular state of affairs will persist for an undetermined period of time. I recently experienced a period of mental and physical exhaustion that was comparable to the one described by the original poster. A considerable volume of work that demanded a great deal of mental and physical energy ultimately led to a state of collapse. It is possible that this was a consequence of my own self-imposed expectations, which led me to believe that acknowledging my shortcomings would result in ridicule from others. After persevering for several months, my body could no longer tolerate the demands placed upon it. I subsequently came to realise that I was considerably more relaxed after acknowledging my limitations.
The questioner may benefit from introspection to identify the impact of this demanding role on his cognitive resources and overall well-being. It is evident that the role has become a significant source of stress, leaving little room for personal fulfillment. It is crucial to understand the underlying thoughts and emotions that arise when confronted with such a challenging situation.
Given my personal experience, I believe it is important to emphasise the necessity of making a decision promptly when confronted with a work situation that is overwhelming. While contemplating the options of remaining in or leaving the situation, it is crucial to allow oneself sufficient time to process and prepare for the transition. I will present a series of strategies that I have found effective in navigating similar circumstances.
Meditation: Due to the excessive workload on my brain and the relatively low mood I experience, I have experienced several instances of crying without relief, which has subsequently affected my sleep. I have found that meditation is an effective method for improving my sleep. Each day, before going to bed, I open the platform's Meditation Planet and select the Bedtime Relaxation option. I allow myself to lie in bed, relax my entire body, listen to music, and listen to the teacher's guidance. Gradually, I release my irritable mood and tired body and focus on each part of my body. This process seems to indicate that I require a more restful state.
During my lunch break, I would engage in the body scan technique described in the book, which would facilitate a distinct state of relaxation. I hypothesize that by meditating regularly, I can enhance my sleep quality, which in turn provides me with the energy to confront the challenges of the next day.
Secondly, exercise is beneficial. During my tenure at the office, I would rise from my desk and walk for a few minutes after working for a while. I would then play music and engage in light exercise. The area designated for exercise does not need to be expansive; it can be tailored to suit one's circumstances. Even when seated, one can perform a series of movements to open the shoulders, expand the chest, and stimulate the armpits and lymph nodes. These actions can be performed with a towel, which can be pulled across the shoulders to open the chest. The heart is situated close to the chest, and when the chest is expanded, it can provide a sense of relief.
③ Learn to find a balance: A considerable amount of work is accumulating, and there is a desire to complete it expeditiously. The faster the work is finished, the more others may perceive the volume of work as excessive. As a hasty individual, when faced with work, the inclination is to complete it rapidly. Consequently, before one is aware, the workload has increased. Subsequently, it became apparent that a balance was necessary. If the work is completed in a hasty manner, there is no opportunity for praise, and the result is simply an increase in the workload. Therefore, it is more beneficial to complete the essential tasks first and then proceed with the remainder at a slower pace. This approach has been found to reduce anxiety.
I am no longer concerned with the opinions of others. I conduct myself in accordance with my own principles and preferences. I find the notion that life is not a sprint but a marathon to be particularly apt. This concept is discussed in the book Anxiety Self-Help Manual. I would suggest reading the two books The Body Knows the Answer to gain further insight. After reading them, you may be better equipped to make informed decisions.
It is my hope that this response will prove beneficial to the questioner.
Best wishes,
