I feel extremely lazy, how can I achieve the goal of acting immediately when I have a goal? By Anonymous | Published on December 18, 2024

I feel extremely procrastinative. Sometimes, even though something is obviously important, my laziness finds excuses. Even though I desperately want to succeed, I still find reasons to say that it's not necessary to be successful, there are still many paths if I fail, it doesn't matter, etc. How can I act immediately when I set a goal, and be determined to succeed, disregarding everything to complete the task?

Hello, questioner. I can see that you're facing some confusion, and I'm here to support you.

Perhaps it would be helpful to consider whether there might be a way to start as soon as you have a goal.

If I may, I'd like to offer a simple example.

You enjoy reading, so you set yourself a goal: every night after work, you read a chapter, which is probably four to five pages.

It's understandable that you might feel tired when you get home from work and find it difficult to read a page of the book.

At that time, you may find yourself thinking, "Since I'm unable to achieve the goal I've set for myself, perhaps it's best not to push myself too hard."

If you don't do it, you'll have no regrets.

If you truly wish to read, you might consider setting a goal that is more achievable.

Perhaps you could try starting with the first word on the first page as a way of getting started.

If you can manage to keep up with this, I would encourage you to read for five minutes at a time. With time and practice, you may find that you are able to read a page in a more sustained manner.

If you can recognize that the goals you've set are within reach, it can help you maintain the motivation to keep going.

You might find it helpful to read the book Micro Habits if you're interested.

I truly hope that the issue you're currently facing can be resolved as soon as possible.

At this moment, my thoughts are drawn back to the above.

I hope my above answer is helpful and inspiring to you, the questioner. I am the answerer, and I study hard every day.

I would like to extend my best wishes to you here at Yixinli.

I hope this message finds you well. I just wanted to drop you a quick line to see how you're doing. I'm sending you lots of good wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hello! I'm so happy you asked. I really hope some of my suggestions can help you.

I can see that you're going through a bit of a confusing time right now. It's not that we can't work hard towards our goals and take practical actions, but we're more inclined to reject a lazy life.

It doesn't matter if you're a hard worker or a laid-back person, there are pros and cons to both. What's important is finding a life that you love, that you're excited about, and that you're comfortable with.

First, we need to take a good look at ourselves and figure out what we want for ourselves. We can even just think about what kind of life we want to have this year!

For example, this year, I just want to relax and rest. We can allow ourselves to be less hardworking, and that's okay!

Or we can set a plan and give ourselves a deadline, saying that I will try my best to see if I can succeed. In the next three or five years, I will set a plan for myself and fight desperately to advance my career or improve myself.

And so on. We can find a big goal or a small goal, and then make arrangements according to the goal.

And the next step is to accept yourself, my friend.

Once you've made your plan or goal, it's time to accept it. It doesn't matter if you've chosen to be lazy or diligent, either way is fine!

Some folks like the idea of a successful life, while others prefer a simple, laid-back lifestyle.

Any lifestyle is good! The most important thing is whether you can feel happy and comfortable.

So when we decide what kind of state we want at this stage, we just accept the result.

It's only natural that external factors will find their way into our lives at this time.

For example, if we lead a lazy life, others might say, "Oh, you're so lazy! You're wasting your whole life."

For example, if we lead a diligent and hardworking life, others might say, "Oh, you're so dedicated! Why are you putting in all that hard work? It's admirable."

So, no matter what kind of life we have, people who are unwilling to accept us and want to criticize us will always have reasons and excuses to discredit or deny our choices.

So it's really helpful to find our own direction deep within ourselves and then stick with it!

Life is all about you! You're the one who truly experiences it, so your own true feelings are really important.

And last but not least, make a great plan based on your goals!

For example, if we want to be lazy, this doesn't mean we're giving up on life or going to extremes.

We can just let loose and play after work, have fun and entertain ourselves, and even use our annual leave or weekends to go traveling, eat, drink and have fun! We can enjoy life however we like, even if it means just lying in bed and sleeping outside of working hours. We can truly relax and feel our emotions, whether we are in a stable state or a happy and pleasant state.

For instance, if we decide to lead a diligent and hardworking life and want to succeed, we can also set simple goals or small goals. There's no need to go to extremes here!

Take me, for instance. I'm just an ordinary person like you, and I don't need to set my sights on making a hundred million. All I need to do is aim a little bit higher than I can already do.

Let's take studying in school as an example. Our ranking is around 20th in the class, and we can only get to 18th at the most. At this time, we can set a plan for ourselves: for this exam, we can aim to maintain our ranking at 18th, 17th, or 16th. There's absolutely no need to set our goal as to get into the top ten next time. We've already done so much!

And when we set goals, in addition to small goals, we can also set big goals! For example, even though I set a goal of 17th or 16th place, I can still achieve my big goal of being in the top ten before graduation. I can just keep moving forward at my own pace. If I'm happy with where I am, I can make a few tweaks here and there. I might decide to maintain my current ranking, or I might come up with a new improvement plan and keep going!

I really hope that self-reflection will help you become more aware of yourself and find a lifestyle that suits you.

I love you, world! And I love you too, my dear friend!

Dear Question Owner, I'm so grateful that you brought up the fact that many people are lazy these days. It's so great that you took action to discuss it together. I really hope my point of view will give you some constructive solutions.

Don't worry, laziness isn't a problem, it's just a state of mind!

It might be triggered by the environment and your own state of mind at the time, as well as the event itself. Try to recall the relationship between your goal and the present situation, and the circumstances that lead to laziness. You can do some self-reflection. Next, allow yourself to let everything happen. We don't make any judgments, but just watch the thought, for example, the thought of laziness, and then give the current state a name, for example, "little lazy bug." I see you, what do you want to tell me? Or is there a hint?

Could it be because of my current physical state? Or maybe I just need to get moving?

And, yes, go ahead and be lazy!

Hey there! We all need to take care of ourselves sometimes. So, remember to adjust your own state.

Including your body, emotions, and beliefs, give it a try! For example, if you act, your body will feel sleepy and yawn.

You can also expose your back to the sun for 10 to 15 minutes every day, drink a bowl of millet porridge between 7:00 and 9:00 in the morning, and keep it up for a period of time to see if there are any subtle changes in your body.

When our emotions are troubled, we can do three sets of deep breathing to relieve them. If the emotions are still not in the right channel, then do three more sets of deep breathing. This is a quick and convenient way to adjust the frequency that I have repeatedly used, and I'm happy to share it with you!

And beliefs! It's so important to make sure our beliefs are in line with our goals. When they are, the body will act accordingly, which is really lovely to see!

On the other hand, if your body won't let you, it's not going to be a positive belief either.

#Goal decomposition

Often a big goal is made up of small goals. When we don't have a strong motivation to act, we can gradually break down our goals into small ones. And when we achieve a small goal, it's so important to encourage and reward ourselves immediately, saying, "Well done! I will do even better next time."

I encourage you to try it for yourself. Your own recognition is 10 times more powerful than the affirmation of others. What others say never has the same effect as what you personally experience.

I am good! And the world is good, too!

A hug for you first!

To overcome procrastination and achieve your goals, you need to manage yourself and motivate yourself. Here are some tips to help you become more action-oriented and stick to your goals.

Be specific. Specific goals are more motivating.

Break down tasks into small steps and give yourself positive feedback for each one. This makes it easier to take action.

Prioritize tasks and start with the most important or urgent ones.

Set deadlines for each task. This can help you stay motivated.

Turn off social media notifications to focus.

Make a to-do list and plan for each day or week. This helps you track progress and stay motivated.

Self-motivation: Set a reward for finishing a task or reaching a goal.

Stay positive. Motivate yourself with positive thoughts. When you encounter difficulties, remind yourself why you started this goal and what success means to you.

Ask for help. Tell friends, family, or colleagues about your goals.

Reflect and adjust. Think about what you're doing and if it's working. Change what you're doing if you need to.

Stay healthy. Get enough sleep, eat right, and exercise.

Understand why you procrastinate. It could be because you're afraid of failing, the task is too hard, or you're not interested. Once you know why, you can tackle the problem.

Changing habits takes time and effort. Don't be hard on yourself, just take action and make gradual improvements.

If you follow these suggestions, you will become more motivated and pursue your goals with greater determination.

I totally get how you feel. It's tough when you're caught between wanting to succeed and feeling too lazy to start. One thing that helps me is breaking down the big goal into tiny, manageable tasks. That way, it feels less overwhelming and easier to just jump in.

Feeling procrastinative is such a common struggle. For me, setting very specific goals with clear deadlines has been a game changer. Also, rewarding myself after completing each step keeps me motivated and focused on the bigger picture.

It sounds like you're really torn between your ambition and procrastination. Maybe try finding an accountability partner who can help keep you on track. Sometimes just knowing someone else is expecting you to follow through can be enough to push past the laziness.

I know the feeling of making excuses all too well. Something that works for me is to remind myself why I want to achieve my goals in the first place. Keeping the end result in mind makes it easier to ignore the distractions and stay determined.

Ethen Davis Do not, for one repulse, give up the purpose that you resolved to effect.

Procrastination can be so frustrating, especially when success matters to you. A technique that might help is to set aside dedicated time slots for working on your goals. During these times, focus solely on the task at hand and treat it like a nonnegotiable appointment.
