Is the quality of consultants on the platform declining? By Anonymous | Published on December 18, 2024

Tonight, I spoke with a counselor via instant messaging.

Although I could clearly feel the difference in quality between instant counseling and previous counselors, there were no major problems overall.

But today, one consultant was outrageous. I told her about the troubles I encountered at work, and she thought I was being too demanding in my job search, and that new employees didn't have the bargaining power.

Three years is just work experience. Don't think about it.

I asked why, and she said it was because she was very experienced. I said that I might not agree with her, and she said that it was because she hadn't said what I wanted to hear.

I felt offended. And as I mentioned in my private message, I probably wanted to hear more of her professional advice.

Then, it didn't. I just felt questioned and challenged, as if I was a useless person if I didn't work. It was quite difficult.

I made it clear that I just wanted to find a job that wasn't too exploitative, and she was saying that since you're a newcomer, you should be grateful for any job you get, and she was bargaining. I felt like I paid money to be PUA'd by a company HR.

Later, I said that although it wasn't time, I wanted to hang up. I don't know if this was her usual tactic to rush away visitors. But the experience was really poor.

Did I say she was unprofessional and wrong?

Good day. My name is Kimu the Little Angel, and I hope my response is of some assistance.

1. The Distinction Between a Counselor and a Psychological Counselor

The questioner indicated that they had engaged in an instant chat with a counselor that evening.

It should be noted that the Yi Xinli instant counseling service is booked with a listener, rather than a counselor. The service offers both voice and text counseling, and the listeners are typically not counselors who have undergone extensive psychological training. Consequently, the fee for a listener is typically only a few tens of dollars per hour, as opposed to hundreds of dollars per hour for a counselor.

It should be noted that different counselors may possess disparate abilities and attitudes.

2. Analysis of the Problem

Although a discernible difference in quality was evident in the live chat, overall, no significant issues were observed.

It would be beneficial to ascertain whether the counselor in question was booked through the app or another channel. While there were no significant issues, it is evident that a distinction in quality was perceived.

Does the discrepancy lie in the counselor's ability to identify the underlying issue, or in their capacity to provide a solution?

One might also consider the possibility that the discrepancy in quality is attributable to the counselor's attitude.

I informed her of the difficulties I had encountered in my professional endeavors. She asserted that I was being excessively demanding in my job search and that newcomers lacked the leverage to negotiate effectively. She further predicted that I would gain sufficient work experience within three years.

One should refrain from dwelling on the matter. Upon inquiring as to the rationale behind this decision, she stated that it was due to her extensive experience.

[

When disclosing personal issues to another individual, it is natural for the confessor to seek understanding, recognition, and effective assistance. However, direct denial and suppression can hinder the neutrality of the counselor or listener.

The listener's description is arbitrary, subjective, and empiricist in nature.

I stated that I might not concur with her opinion, and she asserted that this was because she had not expressed what I had desired to hear. I experienced a sense of offense.

As previously stated in my private message, I was seeking further professional advice from the counselor. Instead, I was met with a sense of interrogation and challenge, as though my lack of employment rendered me a futile individual.

It is a challenging situation.

As a listener, one may disagree with the speaker's ideas; however, it is imperative that one refrain from attacking them with subjective interpretations and, moreover, from taking an opposing position. In the event that the listener's emotions fluctuate or they feel offended, it is crucial to cease communication immediately and adopt a more conciliatory approach.

I made it clear that I was seeking employment that would not be exploitative. What she meant was that, as a newcomer, I should be grateful for any position I was offered and not consider negotiating terms. I felt as though I was being subjected to a predatory approach by a company's human resources department for financial gain.

Subsequently, I informed the individual that, although the designated time had not yet elapsed, I wished to conclude the call. However, I am uncertain as to whether this was a common practice of hers, namely, to abruptly terminate calls with visitors. Regardless, the experience was decidedly unsatisfactory.

[

In addition to adopting an antagonistic stance towards the confider, the listener also inflicts secondary harm. Based on the available information, it can be concluded that this is a severely substandard service.

Did I previously assert that the listener was unprofessional and erroneous in their conduct?

In light of the available information, it is reasonable to conclude that the listener's conduct was unprofessional. It is unfortunate when individuals seeking assistance are met with indifference and harm.

3. Recommendations for Subsequent Consultation and Assistance

1. When selecting an individual to request assistance from, it is advisable to consider the tags and profile of the person in question, with the aim of identifying the most appropriate candidate in relation to the specific issue that requires attention.

2. It is advisable to focus on the number of service visits and the positive feedback rate. In the case of novices and those with a low positive feedback rate, it is recommended to choose as appropriate.

In the case of serial or ongoing problems, it is advisable to select the same individual to address them.

4. Recommendations for Requests for Assistance

1. The positioning of the problem of seeking assistance

It is important to distinguish between the resolution of psychological issues and the resolution of workplace issues. It is essential to determine whether the objective is to address psychological concerns or to address workplace issues.

2. Different problems require different solutions.

The question of how to respond to and resolve instances of workplace PUA, and the issue of how to adapt one's mindset when subjected to PUA in the workplace, are two distinct matters. It is therefore essential to ascertain which of these problems one is seeking to address.

It is my hope that Jinmu's response will prove beneficial to the individual who posed the question. Should the questioner require further assistance or clarification, they are encouraged to communicate with us at their convenience.

Good evening. I'm sorry to hear your experience in instant counseling wasn't good. There are many reasons for this. You have your own professional advice and don't want to be interrupted or exploited.

The counselor might not be in a good mood today and might tell you what to do. It's hard to escape subjective judgments, which is a weakness we all have.

Counselors should also improve their listening and counseling skills. Many novice counselors come in every year. If you're not satisfied, look for another listener.

Your main purpose is to talk, but the other person tells you not to think about anything. This makes it hard to understand. In the current environment, counselors are also vulnerable to external influences and negative energy.

The counselor may have emotional problems, so it's best to be understanding. We all have desires. You don't want to be treated like a piece of meat at work. You have your own demands, which is understandable. Stick to your principles. Newcomers can express their rights and needs.

This reminds me of the movie "The Wish Room." What would you wish for if you could make it come true? I think this room is similar to a place where people can tell their stories. An instant counseling room is also similar. You can feel accepted here, there is no pressure, and I hope your next counseling experience will be better.

I can totally relate to feeling frustrated after a session like that. It's important to seek support that actually helps us grow, not feel belittled. Sometimes counselors may not align with our needs, and it's okay to voice dissatisfaction or look for someone who understands our perspective better. Moving forward, finding a counselor who truly listens could make all the difference.

Isaac Jackson Teachers are the wind beneath the wings of students' academic pursuits.

Feeling dismissed and undervalued by someone who's supposed to offer guidance is incredibly disheartening. It sounds like this consultant failed to provide the empathy and professionalism you deserved. Seeking feedback should be a constructive experience, and it's valid to feel upset when it turns out to be the opposite. You deserve support that respects your feelings and career aspirations.

It's unfortunate that the conversation left you feeling worse instead of supported. The right counselor should empower you and help navigate your concerns constructively, not undermine your efforts or selfworth. Trusting your instincts about what feels right in these interactions is crucial, and it's perfectly reasonable to seek a different perspective that aligns more closely with your values and goals.
